Abstract:Objective To analyze the research status and improvement direction based on the funding of sicca syndrome (SS) project by National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). Methods From January 2000 to December 2021, all funded projects with SS in their titles, abstracts or keywords were collected from the NSFC website, Mace Medical, LetPub, and Home for researchers. Information such as project type, funding amount, supporting unit, responsible person, discipline code, keywords, and achievement transformation were extracted and analyzed by descriptive statistical method. Results From 2000 to 2021, NSFC funded 88 SS projects, including general projects, youth science funds projects, regional science funds projects, and emergency management projects. In 2003, the SS field received NSFC funding for the first time. Since then, although the number and funding of the projects had fluctuated, the overall trend was on the rise. From 2010 to 2019, the number, amount, and achievement transformation of SS funded projects were lower than those of rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus. Among the 11 supporting institutions that had approved projects more than three times, Peking University was in the leading position in terms of the number of approved projects and funding. The research direction of SS project was wide, and the angle of entry was diverse. The keywords was repetition rate low, and the high-frequency terms were cell, cytokine, and pathway. Conclusion NSFC funding is of great significance to SS, but the current clinical demand is large, and the advantages of traditional Chinese medicine are not fully reflected. In the future, it should pay attention to innovation and multidisciplinary intersection, implement the guideline consensus and big data platform as soon as possible, and lead the development of SS clinical research.
