[Abstract] Objective To observe the clinical efficacy cavernostomy and sensitive antibiotics combined with fumigation and washing with Mudanye Decoction in the treatment of chronic osteomyelitis of lower limbs. Methods Eighty patients with chronic osteomyelitis of lower limbs admitted to Rizhao Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shandong Province from January 2015 to June 2020 were selected and divided into control group and observation group by random number table method, with 40 cases in each group. The control group was treated with conventional surgical cavernostomy and sensitive antibiotic anti-infection treatment, while the observation group was treated with fumigation and washing with Mudanye Decoction on the basis of control group. After six weeks of treatment, the clinical efficacy of the two groups was compared. Visual analog scale (VAS) score, white blood cell count, C-reactive protein, and erythrocyte sedimentation rate were compared between the two groups before and after treatment. The incidence of adverse reactions in the two groups was recorded. Results There was no significant difference in total clinical effective rate between the two groups (P > 0.05). After treatment, VAS score, white blood cell count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and C-reactive protein in two groups were lower than those before treatment, and VAS score, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and C-reactive protein of observation group were lower than those of control group, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). There were no serious adverse reactions in both groups. Conclusion The integration of traditional and Western medicine therapy of cavernostomy and sensitive antibiotics combined with fumigation and washing with Mudanye Decoction can effectively relieve pain and promote healing of local lesions of chronic osteomyelitis of lower limbs, which is a safe and effective measure.
