Bibliometric analysis of geriatric nurse specialists in China

Abstract:Objective To systematically understand the current situation and existing problems of the training of geriatric nurse specialists and to provide references for the training of geriatric nursing staff in China. Methods The relevant studies published by CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, and SinoMed Database from inception to February 2021 were searched, with the subject terms of “geriatric nurse specialist”, “older adult”, “specialized nurse”, “advanced practice nurse”, “training” “specialized nurse training”, and “CNS”. The information on the publication year, journal, region, foundation, co-author rate, cooperation degree, and research content were analyzed by bibliometric analysis. Results A total of 131 literatures were included in this study, with an increasing trend of annual publication numbers in recent decades. Seventy-four articles were published in core journals, accounting for 63.2% of the included articles. Nursing Research and Journal of Nursing published the most relevant literatures, are all nine. The top three provinces and cities which published the most related studies were Guangdong Province, Beijing, and Sichuan Province. Thirty-eight articles were supported by at least one foundation. The degree of collaboration was 3.23, and the co-authoring rate was 75.6%. There were 51 articles on geriatric nurse training. Conclusion The research on geriatric nurse specialists has increased over the years, and the research mainly focuses on exploring the training strategies of geriatric nurse specialists. Further studies on professional career development, service evaluation, and clinical use are needed.
