Abstract:Objective To observe the effect of electroacupuncture at Zusanli and Shangjuxu on postoperative ileus after abdominal surgery and its influence on inflammation. Methods A total of 50 patients with postoperative ileus after abdominal surgery admitted to Affiliated Hospital of Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January 2020 to July 2021 were selected, and the patients were divided into control group (conventional postoperative treatments, 25 cases) and electroacupuncture group (electroacupuncture at Zusanli and Shangjuxu combined with conventional postoperative treatments, 25 cases) by the random number table method. Both groups were treated for seven days. The clinical efficacy and the recovery situation of gastrointestinal function (bowel sound recovery time, first exhaust and defecation time, and eating time) were compared between the two groups, and the levels of serum inflammatory factors (tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-6, and C reaction protein) were compared on one day before operation, one day and seven days after operation, and the adverse reaction was observed. Results There was no significant difference in clinical efficacy between the two groups (P > 0.05). Bowel sound recovery time, first exhaust time, defecation time, and eating time in electroacupuncture group were significantly shorter than those in the control group, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The overall analysis showed that there were statistically significant differences between groups, time points, and interactions (P < 0.05). Intra-group comparison: serum tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-6, and C reaction protein levels at seven days after operation were lower than those before operation and one day after operation, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05); comparison among groups: the levels of serum tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-6, and C reaction protein in the electroacupuncture group were lower than those in the control group at seven days after operation, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). There were no adverse reactions in the two groups during treatment. Conclusion Electroacupuncture at Zusanli and Shangjuxu can effectively promote the recovery of gastrointestinal function in patients with postoperative ileus, reduce the inflammation reaction, and have good safety.
