Analysis on the current situation and demand characteristics of nursing staff training in Southwest and East China

Abstract:Objective To understand the current situation and demand characteristics of nursing staff training in Southwest and East China, and to provide a basis for nursing staff training in nursing institutions. Methods From July to September 2020, a multi-stage stratified sampling method was used to investigate the general conditions, training status and needs of 201 elderly care workers in Southwest China and 369 in East China. Results There were statistically significant differences in the education level, previous work as an elderly care worker, employment method, working years, whether there was any relevant study or work experience before joining the job, whether you had participated in training before the job, whether you had participated in the assessment before the job, participated in training during work in Southwest and East China (P < 0.05). There were statistically significant differences in the frequency of training, the desired duration of each training, and the practical operational requirements among elderly care workers in Southwest and East China (P < 0.05). In Southwest and East China, the satisfaction rate of living care and nursing assistance was more than 90%. There were statistically significant differences in the living care needs of nursing staff with different ages, educational levels, previous work as nursing staff, and difficulty in caring for the elderly (P < 0.05). There were statistically significant differences in the nursing assistance needs of nursing assistants of different ages, educational levels, previous jobs, and working years (P < 0.05). There were statistically significant differences in the nursing assistance needs of nursing assistants with different educational levels, previous jobs, and working years (P < 0.05). Age (OR = 0.643), education level (OR = 1.507), difficulty in caring for the elderly (OR = 1.341), and previous work as a nursing care worker (OR = 0.338) were the influencing factors of training needs for life care (P < 0.05). Educational level (OR = 1.333), working years (OR = 0.734), and previous work as a nursing care worker (OR = 0.316) were the influencing factors of the need for nursing assistance training (P < 0.05). Educational level (OR = 0.727), working years (OR = 0.557), and previous work as a nursing care worker (OR = 4.321) were the influencing factors of psychological support training needs (P < 0.05). Conclusion Managers of elderly care institutions should standardize the entry and training system, pay attention to differences in regions and educational backgrounds, and adopt diversified training methods to comprehensively improve the nursing skills of elderly care workers.
