Abstract:Objective To study the expression and clinical significance of tripartite motif-containing 59 (TRIM59) and protein phosphatase 1B (PPM1B) in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) tissues. Methods A total of 97 NPC patients diagnosed and treated in Suining Central Hospital of Sichuan Province from February 2014 to February 2018 were collected, the expressions of TRIM59 and PPM1B in cancer tissues and adjacent tissues of NPC patients were detected by immunohistochemistry, and the relationship between them and clinical features were analyzed. The effects of TRIM59 and PPM1B on the prognosis of NPC patients were used to Kaplan-Meier survival curve. Results Compared with adjacent tissues, the positive rate of TRIM59 expression in cancer tissues was higher(P < 0.05), while the positive rate of PPM1B expression was lower(P < 0.05). The expression of TRIM59 and PPM1B was negatively correlated (r = -0.524, P < 0.01). The positive expression rate of TRIM59 and the negative expression rate of PPM1B in NPC patients with stage Ⅲ-Ⅳ, lymph node metastasis were higher than those in NPC patients with stage Ⅰ-Ⅱ, without lymph node metastasis (P < 0.05). The 3-year survival rate of TRIM59 positive expression was lower than that of TRIM59 negative expression (P < 0.05); the 3-year survival rate of PPM1B positive expression was higher than that of PPM1B positive expression (P < 0.05). Conclusion The expression of TRIM59 in NPC is up-regulated, while the expression of PPM1B is down-regulated. Both expressions are related to tumor TNM staging and lymph node metastasis, and have certain clinical significance in prognosis evaluation of nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
