Abstract:Objective To evaluate the infection of toxocaracanis in preschool children in Chongming district, Shanghai, and analyze the related factors of toxocariasis infection. Methods The questionnaire survey was conducted among 1198 preschool children who studied in six kindergartens in Chongming District, Shanghai in 2018. The serum IgG antibody of toxocaracanis was detected in the children who returned valid questionnaires. The children were divided into infected group and uninfected group according to the detection results, and the influencing factors of toxocaracanis infection were analyzed. Results In this study, 1063 valid questionnaires were collected, with an effective rate of 88.73%. A total of 16 preschool children were positive for toxocariasis antibody, with a positive rate of 1.50%. The proportion of education about toxocaracanis, proportion of children who wash their hands regularly (after returning home, before meals, after using the toilet), and proportion of parents with bachelor degree or abovein infected group were all lower than those in non-infected group, and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Multifactor analysis showed that receiving education about toxocaracanis, children wash their hands regularly (after returning home, before meals, after using the toilet), and parents with bachelor degree or above were the protective factors of toxocaracanis infection in preschool children (OR < 1, P < 0.05). Conclusion The positive rate of serum toxocaracanis IgG antibody is low in preschool children in Chongming District, Shanghai, which is mainly due to the educational level of parents and good hygienic habits of children.
