Abstract:Objective To analyze the correlation of blood uric acid (UA), cystatin C (CysC), and homocysteine (Hcy) with the course and severity of disease in elderly patients with Parkinson disease. Methods Eighty-six elderly Parkinson disease patients admitted to Affiliated Ruici Hospital of Nantong University from January 2018 to January 2021 were selected. They were divided into <6 years group (45 cases), 6-10 years group (28 cases), and >10 years group (13 cases) according to the course of the disease; they were divided into mild group (25 cases), moderate group (43 cases), and severe group (48 cases) according to the Hoehn-Yahr grading scale. Serum UA, CysC, and Hcy levels in patients with different courses of disease and different severity of disease were compared, and the correlation between serum UA, CysC, and Hcy levels and the course of disease and severity of disease were analyzed by Spearman correlation analysis. Results The serum UA level in >10 years group was lower than that in 6-10 years group and <6 years group; the serum UA level in 6-10 years group was lower than that in <6 years group, and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The levels of serum CysC and Hcy in >10 years group were higher than those in 6-10 years group and <6 years group; and the levels of serum CysC and Hcy in 6-10 years group were higher than those in <6 years group, and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The serum UA level in severe group was lower than that in moderate group and mild group; the serum UA level in moderate group was lower than that in mild group, and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The levels of serum CysC and Hcy in severe group were higher than those in moderate group and mild group; and the levels of serum CysC and Hcy in moderate group were higher than those in mild group, and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Serum UA level was negatively correlated with the course of disease (P < 0.05); serum CysC and Hcy levels were positively correlated with the course of disease and severity of disease (P < 0.05). Conclusion The changes of serum UA, CysC, and Hcy levels in elderly patients with Parkinson disease with different course and severity of disease are significant, clinical monitoring of the changes of serum UA, CysC, and Hcy levels is of great importance for prevention and treatment and control of disease development.
