Meta-analysis of the relationship between vasculogenic mimicry and poor prognosis in patients with colorectal cancer#br#

Abstract:Objective To investigate the relationship between vasculogenic mimicry (VM) and poor prognosis in patients with colorectal cancer. Methods The cohort studies on the relationship between VM and poor prognosis of colorectal cancer published in PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, CBM, CNKI, VIP, and Wanfang Data from inception to April 2021 were selected by computer. Then meta-analysis was performed by Stata 14.0 software. The pooled hazard ratio and its 95%CI were calculated. The subgroup analysis was performed. Results Five studies were included, including 769 patients and 203 VM positive patients. Meta-analysis showed a significant correlation between positive VM and poor prognosis (HR = 2.433, 95%CI: 1.844-3.023, P < 0.001). Subgroup analysis showed that sample size, extraction method of patients’ prognosis, and comparability adjustment between groups had no significant influence on the correlation between VM positivity and patients’ prognosis (I2<50%, P > 0.1). Conclusion VM positive is significantly correlated with poor prognosis of colorectal cancer, and VM can be a potential direction for clinical treatment of colorectal cancer.
