Abstract:Objective To study the correlation between different onset ages of type 2 diabetes mellitus and late onset hypogonadism in male (LOH). Methods A total of 120 male patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who were hospitalized in Beijing Friendship Hospital, Capital Medical University from October 2018 to March 2020 were selected. According to the age of onset of type 2 diabetes mellitus, they were divided into early onset group (< 40 years old, 54 cases) and late onset group (≥40 years old, 66 cases). The differences of clinical indicators between the two groups were collected and analyzed, and the correlation between total testosterone and age-related metabolic indicators was analyzed by Pearson and Spearman correlation coefficients. Results The disease course of the early onset group was shorter than that of the late onset group, the proportion of family history of diabetes, the proportion of new diabetes, body mass index, systolic blood pressure, glycosylated hemoglobin, fasting blood glucose, and triglyceride (TG) were higher than those of the late onset group, and high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), follicle stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, the proportion of LOH were lower than those of the late onset group, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Serum total testosterone level was negatively correlated with body mass index, fasting blood glucose, and TG (r or rs < 0, P < 0.05), but positively correlated with HDL-C (rs > 0, P < 0.05). Conclusion The onset age and related indexes of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients were correlated with LOH.
