Clinical study on the effect of self-made Qingre Tongluo Decoction combined with acupuncture in the treatment of peripheral facial paralysis due to wind-heat

Abstract:Objective To study the effect of self-made Qingre Tongluo Decoction combined with acupuncture in the treatment of peripheral facial paralysis due to wind-heat. Methods 86 patients with peripheral facial paralysis due to wind-heat who were treated in Sanhe Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital and Sanhe Hospital from August 2015 to March 2017 were selected. They were divided into treatment group and control group by random number table, with 43 cases in each groups. The treatment group was treated by the self-made Qingre Tongluo Decoction combined with acupuncture, while the control group was treated by routine acupuncture treatment. They were treated for 30 days. The treatment effect, the scores of House-Brackmann (H-B) facial nerve function, physical function (FDIP) and social function (FDIS), as well as adverse reactions of two groups were compared. Results After treatment, the total efficiency of the treatment group was significantly higher than that in the control group, with statistically significant difference (P < 0.05). After treatment, the H-B facial nerve function score of two groups were lower than those before treatment, and the H-B facial nerve function score of the treatment group was lower than that of the control group, with statistically significant difference (P < 0.05). After treatment, the scores of FDIP and FDIS in the two groups were higher than those before treatment, besides the scores of FDIP and FDIS in the treatment group were significantly higher than those in the control group, with statistically significant difference (P < 0.05). There was no serious adverse reaction between the two groups. Conclusion It is effective and safe to treat peripheral facial paralysis due to wind-heat by self-made Qingre Tongluo Decoction combined with acupuncture, which can effectively improve the patient's physical function and the quality of life. Therefore it is worthy of clinical application.
