Abstract:Objective To observe the effect of lipid levels on the correlation between homogeneous and formula assays for measuring low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and compare the relationship and difference between homogeneous and five formula assays, in order to explore the clinical application of formulas. Methods From May 2014 to July 2014, total 17 488 patients from Fuwai Hospital were recruited. All of apolipoprotein B (ApoB), total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), LDL-C and total triglyceride (TG) were measured by an automatic biochemical analyzer (AU5421, Beckman). The moving correlation coefficients (Moving r, Mr) were computed to evaluate lipid effects on the correlation between homogeneous assay and formulas. Meanwhile, observe the correlation and the difference between different methods. Results There were strong correlations between five formulas and homogeneous method (r > 0.95, P < 0.05). Biases of median ranging were from -3.065% to -8.145%, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Mrs changed with levels of ApoB, TC and HDL-C, which decreased firstly, then increased with LDL-C level, and hold constant, then decreased with TG level. The correlations between Delong, Hu Bocheng and Wu Xiuru methods were the strongest (r = 0.97, P < 0.05). It was also found that LDL-C was correlated with ApoB and TC levels (r = 0.92,P < 0.05). Conclusion There are significant correlations as well as the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05) between the homogeneous assay and the formulas. It is recommended that the laboratory would employ the homogeneous assay.
