Abstract:Objective To evaluate the prognostic value of hyperglycemia in patients with idiopathic sensorineural hearing loss (ISSHL). Methods From June 2015 to August 2017, 94 patients with ISSHL treated at Department of Otolaryngology, Rizhao Hospital of TCM were selected and divided into normal glucose tolerance group (45 cases), prediabetes group (28 cases) and diabetes mellitus group (21 cases) according to the results of glucose tolerance test and glycosylated hemoglobin level test. Before and after treatment, they were tested by pure tone audiometry examination to compare the hearing recovery of the three groups. Results The rate of hearing recovery in normal glucose tolerance group was higher than that the in prediabetes group and diabetes mellitus group (P < 0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the rate of hearing recovery between the in prediabetes group and diabetes mellitus group (P > 0.05). Conclusion Hyperglycemia can affect the prognosis of patients with ISSHL, which can be used as an index for evaluating the rehabilitation of patients with ISSHL.
