Abstract:Most people with diabetes are obese, presenting a low-grade proinflammatory state, and obesity increases insulin resistance and the risk of dyslipidemia, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. At the same time, obesity can also lead to the thickening of epicardial adipose tissue (EAT), and there is increasing evidence that EAT is associated with an increased risk of diabetes. EAT is a kind of local deposit between myocardium and pericardium of viscera, and it is easy to measure visceral adipose tissue, its metabolic homeostasis plays an important role in the progression of diabetes. In recent years, new progress has been made in the research on the treatment strategy of diabetes and its influence on EAT. However, the exact role of EAT in the pathogenesis of diabetes needs further elucidation. In this paper, the molecular mechanism and therapeutic strategies of this disease are reviewed in order to provide clues for future research.
