Abstract:Objective To investigate the expression and clinical significance of serum miR-125b and miR-18b in patients with colon cancer. Methods A total of 134 patients with colon cancer treated in Shijiazhuang People’s Hospital (“our hospital” for short) from January 2015 to August 2016 were selected as the colon cancer group, Another 70 healthy subjects in our hospital were selected as the control group. The relative expressions of serum miR-125b and miR-18b were detected by qRT-PCR; the relationship between the expression of serum miR-125b, miR-18b and the clinicopathological characteristics was analyzed; the survival curves of colon cancer patients with different serum miR-125b and miR-18b expressions were plotted by K-M method; receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was used to analyze the predictive value of serum miR-125b and miR-18b expression on the poor prognosis of colon cancer. Results The expression of serum miR-125b in the colon cancer group was lower than that in the control group, and the expression of miR-18b was higher than that in the control group (P < 0.05). There were significant differences in the expression of serum miR-125b and miR-18b in patients with different TNM stages and lymph node metastasis (P < 0.05). The overall survival rate of miR-125b high expression group was higher than that of miR-125b low expression group; the overall survival rate of miR-18b high expression group was lower than that of miR-18b low expression group (P < 0.05). Area under the curve of miR-125b combined with miR-18b in predicting poor prognosis of colon cancer was greater than that of miR-125b and miR-18b alone predicted (P < 0.05). Conclusion The decrease of serum miR-125b expression and the increase of miR-18b expression may be closely related to the occurrence and development of colon cancer, which can be used as a clinical reference index to judge the biological behavior and prognosis of colon cancer.
