Abstract:Objective To explore the effects of health education and nursing intervention based on symptom management strategy on the disease awareness rate and negative emotions of parents of children with pneumonia. Methods A total of 128 children with pneumonia admitted to First Affiliated Hospital of Air Force Military Medical University of Chinese People’s Liberation Army from January 2018 to December 2020 were selected as the research subjects, according to random number table method, they were divided into control group and observation group, with 64 cases in each group. The control group received routine health education nursing intervention, and the observation group received health education nursing intervention based on symptom management strategy. Symptom improvement and prognosis of children, disease awareness rate, self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) score, self-rating depression scale (SDS) score and compliance behavior of parents were compared between the two groups. Results The cough resolution time, fever reduction time, recurrence rate within three months and readmission rate in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The disease awareness rate of parents in observation group was higher than that in control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). After intervention, SAS and SDS scores of the two groups were lower than before intervention, and observation group was lower than control group, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The rates of parents in the observation group adhering to medical advice, keeping warm, physical exercise and scientific diet compliance behavior were higher than those in the control group, with statistical significance (P < 0.05). Conclusion The application of health education and nursing intervention based on symptom management strategy in pediatric pneumonia can alleviate the symptoms of children, improve the prognosis, but also enhance the parents’ cognition of the disease, eliminate the negative emotions of parents, and improve the compliance behavior.
