Effect of traditional Chinese medicine bath of Honghua Huayu Decoction on shoulder joint function recovery and quality of life after rotator cuff injury surgery

Abstract：Objective To investigate the effect of traditional Chinese medicine bath of Honghua Huayu Decoction on shoulder joint function recovery and quality of life after rotator cuff injury surgery. Methods A total of 124 patients with rotator cuff injury who underwent arthroscopic rotator cuff repair in Cangzhou Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine of Hebei Province from March 2018 to July 2020 were selected. According to the envelope drawing method, the patients were divided into control group and study group, with 62 cases in each group. The control group was given routine rehabilitation treatment, and the study group was combined with Honghua Huayu Decoction for traditional Chinese medicine bath on the basis of the control group. Both groups were treated continuously for eight weeks. Clinical efficacy was compared beeween two groups. University of California shoulder system score (UCLA), functional independence scale (FIM), visual analog scale (VAS), inflammatory cytokines and quality of life scores were compared between the two groups before and after treatment. Results The total effective rate of the study group was higher than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P ＜ 0.05). After treatment, the UCLA and FIM scores of the two groups were higher than those before treatment, and the VAS was lower than that before treatment, and the UCLA and FIM scores of the study group were higher than those in the control group, and the VAS was lower than that in the control group, the differences were statistically significant (all P ＜ 0.05). After treatment, the levels of hypersensitive C-reactive protein, interleukin-8 and tumor necrosis factor-α in both groups were lower than those before treatment, and study group were lower than the control group, with statistical significance (all P ＜ 0.05). After treatment, scores of social function, physical pain, physiological enginery, physiological function, emotional function, mental health, vitality and health status in both groups were higher than those before treatment, and the study group was higher than the control group, the differences were statistically significant (all P ＜ 0.05). Conclusion After surgery, the patients with rotator cuff injury are given Honghua Huayu Decoction for traditional Chinese medicine bath treatment, which can effectively promote the recovery of shoulder joint function, improve the quality of life of patients, and reduce inflammation, with definite curative effect.
