Abstract:Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of acupuncture combined with medicine in the treatment of lumbar disc herniation. Methods A total of 80 patients with lumbar disc herniation admitted to Shunyi Hospital, Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from June 2017 to June 2019 were divided into observation group and control group by random number table method, with 40 cases in each group. The control group was given Duhuo Jisheng Decoction orally; the observation group was treated with “Wang’s lumbago eight needles” on the basis of the control group. The changes of visual analogue scale (VAS), Japanese orthopaedic association acores (JOA), Oswestry disability index score (ODI), and the level of pain related mediators in serum were observed and compared between the two groups before treatment, after two weeks of treatment and tree months of follow-up. Results The JOA, ODI and VAS scores in both groups after two weeks of treatment and three months of follow-up were higher than those before treatment, and observation group was higher than control group (all P < 0.05). After treatment, serum PGE2 and 5-HT levels in two groups were lower than before treatment, and β-EP levels in two groups were higher than before treatment (all P < 0.05). After treatment, PGE2 and 5-HT levels in observation group were lower than control group, and serum β-EP level was higher than control group, the differences were all statistically significant (all P < 0.05). The total effective rate of observation group was higher than control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion Acupuncture combined with Duhuo Jisheng Decoction can significantly improve the clinical symptoms of patients with lumbar disc herniation, regulate the level of pain mediators, and has a good long-term effect.
