Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of early rehabilitation on neurodevelopment and swallowing function in children with severe craniocerebral trauma and dysphagia. Methods A total of 84 children with severe craniocerebral trauma and dysphagia admitted to Hunan Provincial Children’s Hospital from January to October 2022 were selected and divided into control group (conventional treatment) and observation group (conventional treatment combined with early rehabilitation treatment) by random number table method, 42 cases in each group. Both groups were treated for four weeks. The dysphagia degree and nutritional status of the two groups before and after treatment were assessed by the Kubota water swallowing test, dysphagia disorders survey scale (DDS), weight for height Z score (WHZ), and the neurodevelopment of the two groups was assessed by gross motor function measure-88 (GMFM-88) and developmental quotient (DQ) of Gesell developmental diagnostic scale. Results After treatment, the scores of Kubota water swallowing test and part two of DDS in two groups were lower than those before treatment, and those of observation group were lower than those of control group (P<0.05). After treatment, WHZ, GMFM-D part score, GMFM-E part score, gross motor DQ, and fine motor DQ in two groups were higher than those before treatment, and those of observation group were higher than those of control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Early rehabilitation therapy has significant effect on children with severe craniocerebral trauma and dysphagia, which can effectively improve nutritional status and promote the recovery of neurodevelopmental swallowing function.
