Metagenomic next-generation sequencing assisted diagnosis of Q fever bloodstream infection: a case report

Abstract:Q fever bloodstream infection is an infection caused by Coxiella burnetii, because its clinical cases are rare, the clinical manifestations lack specificity and traditional detection methods are difficult to obtain its etiological evidence, resulting in the misdiagnosis rate is extremely high. In severe cases, multiple organs of the patient’s may be involved, which is life-threatening. Early diagnosis and precise treatment are still huge clinical challenges. Metagenomic next-generation sequencing has shown great potential in the diagnosis of rare pathogens infection, which makes the detection rate of Q fever pathogens continuously improve. This article reports one case of Q fever bloodstream infection successfully detected by metagenomic next-generation sequencing and timely treatment with reasonable antibiotics, the patient had good prognosis.
