Abstract:Chronic irritant dry cough is one of the most common symptoms of idiopathic interstitial pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). About 80% of IPF patients have chronic irritant dry cough, with daytime symptoms being the most common, and in severe cases it can lead to serious complications such as syncope and fractures, which can aggravate respiratory distress and hypoxia. However, the traditional cough medicine has poor curative effect, and the patients cough can not be cured, whith has a serious impact on patients’ quality of life and psychological well-being. Through clinical observation and practice, Professor Fan Maorong discusses the pathogenesis of cough associated with IPF from the perspective of “original deficiency and paralysis of the lung”, and treats it by emphasising the innate nature, the interplay of gold and water, nourishing the latter and mediating the middle jiao.
