| Application of phased functional exercise of affected limbs with peer support in patients after breast cancer surgery |

Abstract Objective To explore the influence of peer support on the effect of phased functional exercises in patients after breast cancer surgery. Methods A total of 113 postoperative breast cancer patients admitted to Nantong Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January 2018 to December 2019 were selected, and they were divided into the observation group (58 cases) and the control group (55 cases) by random number table method. Both groups performed functional exercises according to the four-stage functional exercise plan for postoperative breast cancer patients, while the observation group combined with peer support functional exercises to compare the pressure status, and the rate of attainment of phased functional exercises and shoulder joint function between the two groups were compared. Results After three months of intervention, the scores of self-rating anxiety scale (SAS), self-rating depression scale (SDS), and Chinese version of the perceptual stress scale (CPSS) of the two groups were lower than those before the intervention, while the scores of the observation group were lower than those of the control group, and the differences were highly statistically significant (P ＜ 0.01). Except for one to seven days, the functional exercise compliance rate at other time points in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P ＜ 0.05). After three months of intervention, the shoulder joint function scores of the two groups were significantly higher than those before the intervention, while activities of daily living, active range of activity, and muscle strength scores of the observation group were significantly higher than those of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P ＜ 0.05 or P < 0.01). Conclusion Peer support can help relieve the psychological pressure and perceptual pressure of patients with phased functional exercise after breast cancer surgery. It can also improve the rate of reaching the standard of phased functional exercise, and promote the recovery of shoulder joint function of patients.
