Clinical study on the relation of cognitive function and red blood cell index in male patient with alcohol dependence |

Abstract Objective To study the correlation of cognitive function and red blood cells index in male patients with alcohol dependence. Methods 65 male patients with alcohol dependence were selected as research group in Hu′nan Province Brain Hospital from January 2016 to April 2017, and 65 healthy check-up were selected as control group. The cognitive function were assessed by Montreal cognitive ment scale (MoCA), the content of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and gamma-pancreatic phthalein transferase (GGT) were tested by automatic biochemical analyzer, the red blood cell count (RBC), hemoglobin (HGB), hematocrit (HCT), red cell volume (RCV), average red blood cell hemoglobin content (MCH) and hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) were detected by fully automatic classification of five blood cell analyzer. Results The score of MoCA in research group was significantly lower than that in control group, and the liver function index of ALT, AST and GGT were significantly higher than that in control group, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The RBC, HGB and HCT in research group were significantly lower than that in control group, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). RCV, MCH and MCHC in two groups were no statistically significant difference (P > 0.05). The score of MoCA in research group was positive related to RBC, HGB and HCT (r = 0.61, 0.63, 0.72, P < 0.05). There were no correlation between MoCA score and MCV, MCH and MCHC in research group (P > 0.05). ALT in research group was negatively related to RBC, HGB and HCT (r =-0.63, -0.65, -0.73, P < 0.05). There was no correlation between ALT and MCV, MCH and MCHC in research group (P > 0.05). AST and GGT were not correlated with erythrocyte correlation (P > 0.05). Conclusion The cognitive function and red blood cells index in male patients with alcohol dependence are changed, the cognitive function and red blood cells index are closely related.
