| Correlation between anxiety and depression and self - management in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus |

Abstract Objective To explore the relationship between anxiety, depression and self-management in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods From September to December 2016, a total of 78 elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in the Department of Endocrinology, the Affiliated Hospital of Southwest Medical University were selected as research objects. The hospital anxiety and depression scale and summary of diabetes self-care activities were used to investigate the level of anxiety, depression and self-management behavior of the patients and the correlation between anxiety, depression and self-management level were analyzed. Results The incidence of anxiety and depression were 41.03% and 44.87%. The total score of self-management was (18.35±3.64). Anxiety, depression and the total score of self-management were negatively correlated (r = -0.517, -0.507, all P ＜ 0.05). Conclusion The psychological assessment should be enhanced and corresponding psychological nursing intervention measures should be taken in oder to improve the patients′ self-management level.
