| Analysis on relativity between social support and quality of life of family caregivers of patients with stroke sequelae |

Abstract Objective To analyze the status and correlation of quality of life and social support levels of family caregivers of patients with stroke sequelae. Methods A survey of 148 patients with stroke sequelae and their family caregivers were conducted in Dadong Street Community Health Service Center of Yuexiu District of Guangzhou from April to August 2019 by the MOS 36-item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36) and Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS). The differences in quality of life and social support with norm scores were compared and the correlation was analyzed. Results The quality of life of family caregivers of patients with stroke sequelae was poor. Except for physiological function and mental health, the other dimensions were lower than the norm, and the differences were all statistically significant (all P ＜ 0.05). Overall, the quality of life of family caregivers of patients with stroke sequelae was positively correlated with social support (r = 0.275, P ＜ 0.01). Except for objective support, all other dimensions were significantly correlated with the total score of quality of life (P ＜ 0.05). Conclusion The family caregivers of patients with stroke sequelae have lower quality of life and poor social support. Community medical staff should actively take measures to improve the levels of social support for family caregivers of patients with stroke sequelae, thereby improving the quality of life of patients and family caregivers.
