Abstract Epigenetics is a genetic change of the organism phenotype or gene expression, but its alterations do not involve the changes of DNA sequences, which emphasizes the interaction between genes and environment, and it has been becoming a hot content in the frontier research of life sciences. As one content of the research progress of epigenetics and a kind of reversible modification in response to internal and external environmental changes, the abnormal of DNA methylation pattern is associated with many diseases. Previous studies show that the traditional Chinese medicine plays a role for disease treatment by DNA methylation modification. This paper summarizes the recent studies of traditional Chinese medicine in regulating the DNA methylation from the aspects of different drug properties of traditional Chinese medicine, traditional Chinese medicine monomer and Chinese compound formula, so as to provide theoretical basis for further studying the targets and mechanism of traditional Chinese medicine in the process of treatment.
