| Clinical effect of Bushen Tongluo Decoction combined with filiform and fire needle therapy in the treatment of lumbar disc herniation |

Abstract Objective To observe the effect of Bushen Tongluo Decoction combined with filiform and fire needle therapy in the treatment of lumbar disc herniation (LDH). Methods A total of 72 patients with LDH who were treated in the Affiliated Hospital of Inner Mongolia University for Nationalities from January to November 2019 were selected and randomly divided into treatment group and control group by random number table method, with 36 cases in each group. Patients of both groups were given conventional Western medicine treatment (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). The treatment group was treated with Bushen Tongluo Decoction combined with filiform and fire needle therapy in the basis of conventional treatment. Patients in both groups were treated for two weeks. The Japanese orthopaedic association (JOA) score, Oswestry disability index (ODI) score, pain rating index (PRI) score, visual analog scale (VAS), pain score (PRIS) and adverse reactions of the two groups were observed before and after treatment. The therapeutic effects of the two groups were compared. Results The total effective rate of the treatment group was higher than that of the control group (P ＜ 0.05). After treatment, the ODI, PRI, VAS, PRIS scores of the two groups were decreased, while the JOA scores were increased (all P ＜ 0.05). After treatment, the ODI, PRI, VAS, PRIS scores in the treatment group were lower than those of the control group and JOA score was higher than that of the control group (all P ＜ 0.05). During the treatment, there was no abnormal change of liver and kidney function, no drug-related gastrointestinal adverse reactions and other obvious discomforts. Conclusion Bushen Tongluo Decoction combined with filiform and fire needle therapy in the treatment of LDH has a positive effect, which is worthy of further study.
