Qualitative research on cognition and attitude of palliative care nurses to palliative care

Abstract:Objective To deeply understand the cognition and attitude of the nurses from palliative department toward palliative care. Methods From September to October 2017, with phenomenological method of qualitative research as the guidance, and with purposive sampling method and semi-structured interviews adopted, 10 nurses from palliative department in a third grade class-A tumor hospital in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region were interviewed and relevant materials were collected and analyzed. Results Four themes were extracted from analyzing the interview materials: ①the cognition to the concept of palliative treatment; ②the implementation of palliative care; ③the intervention to family members; ④the problems faced in the implementation of palliative care. Conclusion Palliative care nurses have a positive attitude towards the implementation of palliative care, and the promotion of palliative care concept should be strengthened.
