Clinical characteristics analysis of polycystic ovary syndrome with syndrome of phlegm dampness

Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical characteristics, sex hormones and glucose and lipid metabolism characteristics of PCOS patients with syndrome of phlegm dampness. Methods From September 2013 to August 2015, the data of gynecological outpatient patients with PCOS from Clinical Research Information Integration System of First Affiliated Hospital, Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine were analyzed retrospectively. All the patients were divided into two groups according to the diagnostic criteria of PCOS with syndrome of phlegm dampness. The clinical characteristics, sex hormones and abnormal metabolism of glucose and lipid were compared and analyzed. Results Among 617 cases of PCOS, 393 cases (63.7%) were PCOS with syndrome of phlegm dampness, and 224 cases (36.3%) were non phlegm dampness. The body mass index, waist hip ratio, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, incidence of acanthosis, excessive fat, insulin resistance, impaired glucose tolerance, testosterone, fasting blood glucose, fasting insulin, insulin resistance index, total cholesterol, triglyceride, low density lipoprotein cholesterol, total cholesterol high density lipoprotein, triglyceride/high density lipoprotein cholesterol, low density lipoprotein cholesterol/high density lipoprotein cholesterol and lipid accumulation index in the phlegm dampness syndrome PCOS group were higher than those in non phlegm dampness syndrome PCOS group (P < 0.05). The hairy incidence, luteinizing hormone, follicle stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone/follicle stimulating hormone, sex hormone binding globulin, high density lipoprotein cholesterol levels in phlegm dampness PCOS group were lower than those in the non phlegm dampness syndrome PCOS group (P < 0.05). Conclusion Phlegm dampness syndrome is one of the main syndromes of PCOS patients; PCOS patients with syndrome of phlegm dampness have obvious sex hormones and glucose and lipid metabolism abnormality. Besides insulin resistance is an important metabolic characteristic of PCOS with syndrome of phlegm dampness.
