Effect of PDCA cycle combined with whole-course health education on self-care ability and disease cognition level of elderly patients with hypertension

Abstract:Objecitve To explore the effect of PDCA cycle combined with whole-course health education on self-care ability and disease cognition level of elderly patients with hypertension. Methods From May 2015 to June 2016, 104 hypertensive patients over 65 years in Qingdao Municipal Hospital were selected and divided into the combination group and the conventional group by random number table, with 52 cases in each group. The conventional group received conventional health education and the combination group received PDCA cycle combined with whole-course health education. The two groups were both intervined for 10 months. The blood pressure level, self-care ability and disease cognition level in the two groups before and after intervention were compared. Results There were no statistically significant differences in the blood pressure level, self-care ability and disease cognition level before intervention between the two groups (P > 0.05). After intervention, the systolic and diastolic blood pressure in two groups were all lower than those of before intervention, and the indicators above in the combination group decreased much more remarkably, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). The scores of self-care ability and disease cognition level in the two groups were all higher than those of before intervention, and the scores above in the combination group increased much more remarkably, with statistically significant differences (all P < 0.05). Conclusion The PDCA cycle combined with whole-course health education can effectively improve the self-care ability and disease cognition level of elderly patients with hypertension. It is of great significance to control the level of blood pressure. It is worthy of clinical promotion and application.
