Application of objective structured clinical examination combined with microteaching method in pediatric dental education

Abstract:Objective To explore application effect of objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) combined with microteaching method in pediatric dental education. Methods Forty-eight undergraduates majoring in stomatology from Stomatology College of Air Force Military Medical University from November to December in 2019 were selected, micro/OSCE joint teaching method was implemented, quantitative examination results were used to reflect clinical ability of students, students’ opinions on the teaching process were collected through a questionnaire survey. Results The average score of OSCE was (68.52±11.26) points, including (36.74±7.49) points for “clinical reception” and (35.65±7.99) points for “explanation and guidance”. The score of micro/OSCE was (68.80±11.00) points. 93.75% of the students thought that the effect of joint teaching method was better. Conclusion The combined teaching method of micro/OSCE can evaluate students’ professional quality comprehensively and objectively. It is also convenient for examiners and subjects to carry out the assessment. After the files are established, they can be played back and traced back. It can be used in preclinical teaching of children’s stomatology and achieve good results.
