Abstract:Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is one of the main causes of death and disability among young and middle-aged adults, and can have a significant impact on patients’ physiology and psychology. Neuroinflammation runs through the entire process of TBI. Although the diagnosis and treatment plan of TBI has improved in recent years, there is still a lack of biomarkers with timely diagnosis and accurate prediction value, and the treatment results are not satisfactory. Exosomes (EXO) are formed after being shed from various types of cell membranes under physiological or pathological conditions, and transport specific signals such as functional proteins, mRNA transcripts, and microRNA (miRNA) carried to the recipient cell. Biological nanoparticles that transmit information to each other have great potential in disease diagnosis and treatment. Quantitative detection of its contents can assist in assessing the degree of brain damage, monitoring disease, predicting prognosis, and providing new targets for diagnosis and treatment. This article aims to review the domestic and foreign studies on miRNAs derived from exosomes, a new biomarker with potential value for assessing the degree of injury and predicting the prognosis of TBI patients.
