Correlation between lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 level and major cardiovascular events in senile patients with diabetes mellitus

Abstract:Objective To investigate the correlation between lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2) and major cardiovascular events (MACE) in senile patients with diabetes mellitus. Methods A total of 240 senile patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus from January 2016 to March 2017 in the Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University were selected as study subjects. According to Lp-PLA2 level, the group was divided into Lp-PLA2 increased group (124 cases) and Lp-PLA2 decreased group (116 cases). According to the occurrence of MACE, the patients were divided into MACE group (50 cases) and non-MACE group (190 cases). The risk factors of MACE and the correlation between LP-PLA2 and MACE were analyzed. Results The level of Lp-PLA2 in MACE group was higher than that of non-MACE group (P < 0.05). Age, diabetes mellitus course, systolic blood pressure, glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), Lp-PLA2 were correlated with MACE accumulation (P < 0.05). Diabetes mellitus course, Lp-PLA2 and HbA1c were independent factors influencing the accumulation of MACE (P < 0.05). The incidence of MACE in Lp-PLA2 increased group was higher than that in Lp-PLA2 decreased group (P < 0.05). The accumulation time of MACE in Lp-PLA2 increased group was shorter than that in Lp-PLA2 decreased group (P < 0.05). Conclusion Lp-PLA2 is closely related to MACE in senile patients with diabetes mellitus, and the risk of MACE is increased in patients with elevated Lp-PLA2.
