Correlation analysis between serum type Ⅰ collagen amino terminal prolongation peptide and β-type Ⅰ collagen carboxy terminal peptide and type 2 diabetes mellitus with osteoporotic fracture

Abstract:Objective To analyze the correlation between serum type Ⅰ collagen amino terminal prolongation peptide (P1NP) and β-type Ⅰ collagen carboxy terminal peptide (β-CTX) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) with osteoporosis fracture. Methods A total of 120 T2DM patients with osteoporosis fracture at the First Affiliated Hospital of Air Force Medical University of the People′s Liberation Army from June 2016 to January 2019 were selected and divided into T2DM osteoporosis with fracture group (54 cases) and T2DM osteoporosis without fracture group (66 cases). Plasma P1NP, β-CTX were measured by chemiluminescence method, and bone density, fasting blood glucose (FBG), body mass index (BMI), glycated hemoglobin (GHb), serum 25 hydroxyvitamin D [25 (OH)D] were measured, and the Pearson product correlation coefficient r was used to express the linear relationship. Results The levels of P1NP and β-CTX in T2DM osteoporosis with fracture group were lower than those in T2DM osteoporosis without fracture group (all P < 0.05). P1NP and β-CTX were not significantly correlated with age, FBG, GHb, body mass index, BMI and 25 (OH)D in the two groups (P > 0.05), but P1NP was positively correlated with β-CTX in the two groups (r = 0.744, 0.495, all P < 0.05). Conclusion The levels of P1NP and β-CTX may be related to osteoporotic fracture in T2DM.
