Abstract：Objective To explore clinical effect of Centipede Powder external application combined with blood-letting puncturing and cupping in the treatment of postherpetic neuralgia (PHN). Methods Sixty patients with PHN admitted to Yangjiang Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Guangdong Province from January to July 2019 were selected as research objects, they were divided into control group (30 cases) and observation group (30 cases) by random number table method. Control group was treated with conventional Western medicine treatment (Acyclovir + Mecobalamin Tablets + Gabapentin Capsules), observation group was treated with Centipede Powder external application and blood-letting puncturing and cupping on the basis of control group. The visual analogue score, pain relief time, other symptom scores before and after treatment, clinical treatment effect, sleep quality, adverse reactions and the incidence of postoperative neuralgia in three and six months after discharge between two groups were observed. Results The visual analogue scores of two groups after treatment were significantly lower than those before treatment, and observation group was lower than that in control group, the differences were statistically significant (P ＜ 0.05). The pain relief time of observation group was shorter than that of control group (P ＜ 0.05). The scores of itching, tactile sensitivity and burning sensation in observation group after treatment were significantly lower than those in control group and before treatment (P ＜ 0.05). Total effective rate of observation group was significantly higher than that of control group (P ＜ 0.05). The scores of Pittsburgh sleep quality index scale in two groups after treatment were significantly lower than those before treatment, and observation group was lower than that in control group, the differences were statistically significant (P ＜ 0.05). There was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between two groups (P > 0.05). The incidence rates of postoperative neuralgia in observation group at three and six months after discharge were lower than those in control group, the differences were statistically significant (P ＜ 0.05). Conclusion Centipede Powder external application combined with blood-letting puncturing and cupping therapy in the treatment of PHN has positive effect. It can effectively relieve clinical symptoms, improve sleep quality, shorten the time of pain onset, reduce the degree of pain, high safety, less adverse reactions. It is worthy of clinical application.
