Abstract:Objective To observe the clinical effect of moxibustion combined with functional electrical stimulation (FES) in the treatment of mild and moderate benign prostatic hyperplasia, and compare with single use of oral Finasteride. Methods Sixty patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia treated in Beijing Xiaotangshan Hospital from May 2014 to October 2015 were collected and divided into two groups according to random number table method, with 30 cases in each group. The experimental group was treated with moxibustion combined with FES, and the control group was treated with single oral Finasteride, the course was 6 weeks. The clinical efficacy of the two groups was compared. Results After treatment, the scores of international prostate symptom score (IPSS), quality of life (QOL) and residual urine volume in the two groups were all lower than those before treatment, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05), but there were no statistically significant differences of prostate volume before and after treatment (P > 0.05). After treatment, the scores of IPSS, QOL and residual urine volume in the experimental group were all lower than those of control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion Moxibustion combined with FES has definite curative effects in improving the clinical symptoms of voiding dysfunction and residual urine volume of patients with mild and moderate benign prostatic hyperplasia, which is better than single use of oral Finasteride. However, there are no significant effects in improving the prostate volume in the two groups.
