Abstract:Objective To explore the feasibility, acceptability and initial effect of dance intervention in elderly patients with cognitive impairment who need long-term care. Methods Twenty geriatrics patients who met the inclusion criteria and were admitted to the Affiliated Hospital of Liaoning University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January to April 2019 were selected to provide dance courses. At the same time, the method of repeated measurement design was adopted to collect and record the participation rate and attrition rate of patients in the whole experiment process, as well as the general physical condition, cognitive impairment degree and psychological test results of all participants. At the end of each dance, the participation rate of the patients, the degree of completion of the dance program, and the evaluation of the dance course were recorded. Results The completion rate of the study was 93% (13/14). The overall mean participation rate of the patients was 1.82 (1.75, 1.97) points, and the overall evaluation of dance intervention was 2.05 (1.85, 2.35) points. The overall acceptability of the caregiver for dance intervention was (2.37±0.72) points. Conclusion The high completion rate and participation rate in this study support the feasibility of dance intervention, and both patients′ evaluation of dance intervention and caretakers′ acceptance of dance intervention are high. Therefore, dance intervention has a broad application prospect and is worthy of further study to determine its effectiveness in a larger sample.
