Abstract:Objective To evaluate the effect of acupoint application of traditional Chinese medicine on constipation related to Oxkangding in cancer patients. Methods Seventy-two cases of cancer patients with constipation caused by Oxycontin were selected in Oncology Department of Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Capital Medical University from January 2017 to June 2019. The patients who met the criteria were divided into treatment group (36 cases, acupoint application of traditional Chinese medicine) and control group (36 cases, oral Lactulose) by random number table method. The incidence of constipation, bowel function, quality of life [Karnofsky performance status (KPS)] and pain [numeric rating scale (NRS)] score between two groups was observed. Results There was no significant difference in incidence of constipation between two groups (P > 0.05). There was significant difference in incidence of constipation between treatment period and follow-up period in treatment group (P < 0.05). There was significant difference in incidence of constipation between treatment period and follow-up period in control group (P < 0.05). The differences were statistically significant between two groups in incidences of fecal restlessness, abdominal distention and abdominal pain before defecation (P < 0.05), and there was no statistically significant difference between two groups in incidence of hard stool (P > 0.05). There was no significant difference in KPS scores between two groups before treatment (P > 0.05). There was no significant difference in KPS scores between two groups after treatment (P > 0.05). The KPS scores in two groups after treatment were higher than those before treatment, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.01). There was no significant difference in NRS score between two groups before treatment (P > 0.05). There was no significant difference in NRS score between two groups after treatment (P > 0.05). The NRS scores in two groups after treatment were lower than those before treatment, the defferences were statistically significant (P < 0.01). Conclusion Acupoint application of traditional Chinese medicine can effectively prevent and treat constipation caused by Oxycontin, and its effect is similar to Lactulose.
