Abstract:Objective To explore the therapeutic effect of percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) on elderly patients with osteoporotic thoracolumbar fracture and its effect on bone mineral density and osteocalcin. Methods A total of 82 elderly patients with osteoporotic thoracolumbar fractures who were treated in Lishui People′s Hospital from March 2017 to April 2018 were selected and divided into the observation group (43 cases) and the control group (39 cases) according to the random number table. The control group received conservative treatment, while the observation group received PVP treatment, the clinical efficacy, vertebral compression rate, Cobb angle, bone mineral density, osteocalcin level and daily activity ability of the two groups were compared. Results The total effective rate of the observation group was significantly higher than that of the control group (P < 0.05). Vertebral compression rate and Cobb angle in the observation group were significantly lower than those before treatment and in the control group (P < 0.05). The vertebral compression rate in the control group was significantly lower than that before treatment (P < 0.05), but the Cobb angle had no significant difference (P > 0.05). The bone mineral density and osteocalcin levels in the two groups were significantly higher than those before treatment (P < 0.05), and the bone mineral density and osteocalcin levels in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P < 0.05). The daily activity ability of the patients in the observation group was better than that in the control group and before treatment (P < 0.05). Conclusion PVP has a good clinical effect on elderly patients with osteoporotic thoracolumbar fracture, it can significantly improve the healing of vertebral body, promote vertebral fusion, improve bone mineral density, osteocalcin and daily activity ability.
