Abstract:Objective To investigate the risk and clinical significance of serum uric acid level and acute ischemic stroke in the middle-aged and elderly populations. Methods Retrospective analysis was performed on the data of 304 patients who met the study criteria in the No.908 Hospital of the People′s Liberation Army Joint Logistics Support Force from January 2015 to December 2017, among which 152 new acute ischemic stroke patients were in the stroke group and 152 matched non-stroke patients were in the non-stroke group. The clinical and biochemical data of the included patients were collected, and the basic information, clinical and biochemical indicators between the two groups were compared. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis was used to investigate the relationship between serum uric acid level and acute ischemic stroke. Results There were no significant differences in gender, age, systolic blood pressure, smoking, alcohol consumption, low density lipoprotein cholesterin, triglyceride, total cholesterol, blood urea nitrogen and blood glucose between the stroke group and the non-stroke group (P > 0.05). Body mass index, white blood cells, platelets, high density lipoprotein cholesterol, serum uric acid, serum creatinine, glutamic oxalacetic transaminase, homocysteine and other indicators were compared, and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The risk of ischemic stroke in females was 1.01 (95%CI: 1.00-1.01, P = 0.027), but there was no statistically significant difference in the risk of ischemic stroke in males (P > 0.05). Conclusion Elevated serum uric acid levels increase the risk of acute ischemic stroke in females, but not significantly in males.
