Abstract:This paper introduces professor Liu Xiaohong′s clinical experience in treating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease by differentiation of symptoms and signs. Professor Liu combines the principles and methods of traditional Chinese medicine with the actual situation in Lingnan area in the clinical to embody the thought of "the theory of the three categories of etiologic factors" in traditional Chinese medicine, stressing that deficiency of lung and spleen is the main pathogenesis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and deficiency of Qi and phlegm is the key factor in the formation and development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and promoting simultaneous treatment of lung and spleen in clinic, and herbs with Lingnan characteristics are chosen according to the actual situation.
