Clinical effect of Huatan Jiangqi Huoxue Decoction combined with conventional Western medicine in the treatment of asthma-chronic obstructive pulmonary disease overlap

Abstract：Objective To explore the clinical effect of Huatan Jiangqi Huoxue Decoction combined with conventional Western medicine in the treatment of asthma-chronic obstructive pulmonary disease overlap (ACO). Methods One hundred and six patients with ACO admitted to Hubei Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from June 2017 to December 2018 were selected. They were divided into control group (conventional Western medicine treatment) and study group (Huatan Jiangqi Huoxue Decoction combined with conventional Western medicine treatment) by random number table method, with 53 cases in each group. The clinical efficacy, inflammatory factors, pulmonary function indicators，symptom scores changes and adverse reactions of the two groups were compared. Results After 12 weeks of treatment, the total effective rate of the study group was higher than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P ＜ 0.05). The first second forced expiratory volume (FEV1), peak expiratory flow (PEF), forced vital capacity (FVC), FEV1/FVC, asthma control test (ACT) score after 12 weeks of treatment in both groups were significantly increased compared with those before treatment, while the study group was significantly higher than the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P ＜ 0.05). The levels of interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), and COPD assessment test (CAT) in the two groups after 12 weeks of treatment were significantly lower than those before treatment, while the study group was significantly lower than the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P ＜ 0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups (P ＞ 0.05). Conclusion Huatan Jiangqi Huoxue Decoction combined with conventional Western medicine in the treatment of ACO can rapidly improve the clinical symptoms of patients with definite curative effect. At the same time, it can effectively improve the level of inflammatory factors and lung function, and it has better safety.
