Correlation study of ischemia modified albumin, glycosylated albumin and glycated hemoglobin A1c in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and retinopathy

Abstract:Objective To explore risk factors and correlation of ischemia modified albumin (IMA), glycosylated albumin (GA) and glycated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) on patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and retinopathy. Methods 226 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in Endocrinology Department of the First Central Hospital of Baoding City in Hebei Province ("our hospital" for short ) from May 2015 to March 2016 were recruited. Among them, 144 patients without retinopathy as non-retinopathy group, 82 patients with retinopathy as retinopathy group. During the same period, 120 cases of health examination were collected as healthy examination group. The levels of IMA, GA, HbA1c were examined and analyzed. Results The levels of IMA, GA, HbA1c in non-retinopathy group and retinopathy group were significantly higher than those in healthy examination group, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The levels of IMA, GA, HbA1c in retinopathy group were significantly higher than those in non-retinopathy group, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Age is an important risk factor for type 2 diabetes mellitus with retinopathy, the morbidity increased with age. Logistic regression analysis showed that GA and HbA1c were independent risk factors for retinopathy in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, and IMA was not an independent risk factor for diabetic retinopathy. Conclusion The levels of IMA, GA and HbA1c increasing are risk factors of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus combined with retinopathy. Routinely testing these indicators can help do earlier intervention and treatment in patients with diabetic retinopathy.
