Abstract:Objective To establish the normal reference range of healthy children serum Vitamin B12 (VB12) in Guangzhou. Methods Levels of serum VB12 of 2065 healthy children (1208 boys and 857 girls) and 129 adults (52 male and 77 female) living in Guangzhou Region were examined by LK3000V Vitamin Analyzer from September 2015 to December 2016. The results were analyzed statistically. Results There were no statistical differences in levels of serum VB12 between boys and girls in 11 age groups (aged less than 11) and 11-17 age group (P > 0.05). The median (P2.5, P97.5) levels of serum VB12 defined by age were 252.4 (192.3, 338.0) pg/mL of 0-2 years-old group, 253.1 (192.5, 359.5) pg/mL of >2-5 years-old group as well as >7-17 years-old group, 262.7 (194.8, 374.9) pg/mL of >5-7 years-old group, 297.5 (233.7, 383.1) pg/mL of >17 years-old group, there were statistically significant differences between any two groups (P < 0.05). Positive correlation was found between age and level of serum VB12 (r=0.228, P=0.000). Conclusion Reference ranges of healthy children serum VB12 in Guangzhou Region are showed as follows: 192.3-338.0 pg/mL of 0-2 years-old children, 192.5-359.5 pg/mL of >2-5 years-old as well as >7-17 years-old children, and 194.80-374.9 pg/mL of >5-7 years-old children.
