Methods Through the questionnaire survey, this study compared the understanding and identification of GFM, study method and effects and the willingness serve in a community health center in master postgraduates of GP (40 cases) and other majors (40 cases) of Capital Medical University from September 2014 to July 2016. Results GP master postgraduates were more interesting in chronic disease management than other majors, so did the understanding and identification of GFM (P < 0.05). GP master postgraduates thought learning GEM would be benefit for future occupation. The willingness to serve in a community health center and to engage in chronic disease management was stronger in GP master postgraduates than other majors, although there were concerns about the working environment, income and academic status, professional development, but this ratios in GP master postgraduates were significantly lower than other professional graduate students (P < 0.05). A case-report based learning and practice in community hospitals was well accepted by all of the master postgraduates, and they expected more international communications (P > 0.05). Conclusion Postgraduate education for GP provides sufficient professional knowledge and clinical understanding of GFM, which are helpful for master postgraduates in employment preparation and chronic disease management. So postgraduate education for GP should be further supported.
