Abstract:This paper makes a reflection on the ESP education of medical universities of Western China based on two guidance documents. It points out that it is imperative to reform the college English teaching and analyses the difficulties for medical universities of Western China to implement ESP education. Various qualities of students, lack of ESP textbooks and ESP teachers are regarded as main factors that limit the ESP teaching in medical universities. Some suggestions are proposed in this article. It is believed that EGP teachers being transformed into ESP teachers, adoption of classification education and implementation of ESP in a small group, demand analysis and various teaching methods, and practical ESP teaching model can stimulate the ESP teaching of medical universities of Western China.
