The relationship between serum hypoxia-inducible factor-α level and uterine artery hemodynamic parameters in pregnancy-induced hypertension

Abstract:Objective To investigate the relationship between serum hypoxia-inducible factor-alpha (HIF-α) level and uterine artery hemodynamic parameters in hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. Methods A total of 100 patients with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy admitted in Chengyang People′s Hospital of Qingdao City in Shandong Province ("our hospital" for short) from January 2017 to May 2018 were selected as observation group. According to blood pressure and complications, they were divided into severe preeclampsia group (n = 21), preeclampsia group (n = 35), pregnancy induced hypertension group (n = 44). Another 40 healthy pregnant women who had normal physical examination in our hospital during the same period were selected as control group. The serum level of HIF-α was detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, hemodynamic parameter was calculated by color Doppler ultrasound. The changes of serum HIF-α and hemodynamic parameter in each group was compared. The correlation between serum HIF-α and hemodynamic parameter was analyzed by Pearson correlation analysis. Results The level of serum HIF-α and hemodynamic parameters in observation group were significantly higher than those in control group, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The serum level of HIF-α and hemodynamic parameters in severe preeclampsia group and preeclampsia group were significantly higher than those in pregnancy induced hypertension group (P < 0.05), and the above indexes in severe preeclampsia group were higher than those in preeclampsia group (P < 0.05). Pearson correlation analysis showed that the serum HIF-α level of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy was positively correlated with pulsatility index, resistance index, peak systolic velocity/diastolic peak velocity ratio (r = 0.687, 0.652, 0.329, P = 0.000, 0.000, 0.012). Conclusion Serum HIF-α is highly expressed in hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and is closely related to uterine artery hemodynamics. It is speculated that HIF-α may participate in the occurrence and development of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.
