Abstract:Objective To discuss the correlation between osteoporosis and various chronic diseases in the elderly. Methods 373 patients in Geriatrics Department of 181th Hospital of PLA from April 2013 to September 2016 were selected as the whole patients, in which the elderly patients over 60 years old were selected as the elderly. Within 24 hours of admission, age, sex , height and BMI, at the same time, according their anamnesis and hospital examination, whether suffered from common chronic diseases such as type-2 diabetes, hypertension, coronary heart disease, COPD, cerebral apoplexy, malnutrition, chronic kidney disease, cataract, spinal degeneration, urinary tract stones and biliary calculi of these patients were investigated. The BMD of L2-L4, bilateral collum femoris, oblique eminence of cuboid bone and Ward′s triangle were measured, the low values of T-scores were taken. Then the relation between the foregoing investigation′s data and BMD in all patients and the elderly were analyzed by partial correlation analysis. Results Partial correlation analysis showed that in all patients BMD was related with sex, age, BMI, type-2 diabetes, stroke, cataracts, thoracic vertebra degeneration, knee-joint degeneration, biliary calculi (P < 0.05). But in the elderly, the BMD was related with sex, BMI, type-2 diabetes, hypertension, coronary heart disease, cerebral apoplexy, knee-joint degeneration, biliary calculi (P < 0.05). Conclusion BMD is related with multiple factors and various chronic diseases such as gender, BMI, type-2 diabetes, stroke , knee-joint degeneration, biliary calculi and so on, meanwhile, BMD in the elderly is related to hypertension and others, which prompts that prevention and treatment of these chronic diseases may contribute to osteoporosis.
