Abstract:Objective To explore the influences of nutrition support on clincial efficacy and quality of life in elderly patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(AECOPD). Methods A total of 62 elderly patients with AECOPD treated in Putuo District Central Hospital of Shanghai from August to September 2016 were randomly divided into conventional treatment group and nutrition intervention group by random number table, with 31 cases in each group. The conventional treatment group was given conventional drug treatment and the nutrition intervention group was given nutrition support for 4 weeks additionally on the bases of conventional treatment group. Short form mini-nutritional assessment (MNA-SF), COPD assessment test (CAT) and St. George respiratory questionnaire (SGRQ) were used to evaluate the nutritional status, acute episodes, hospitalization and quality of life before and after treatment. Results Before treatment, there were no statistically significant differences in the two groups in the level of ALB, PA,Hb and scores of MNA-SF (P > 0.05). After treatment for 4 weeks, the indicators above in the nutrition intervention group were all higher than those of before treatment, after treatment for 2 weeks and the conventional treatment group, with statistically significant differences (all P < 0.05). The hospitalization is much shorter than that of conventional treatment group, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). Before treatment, there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups in the scores of CAT (P > 0.05). After treatment for 4 weeks, the scores of CAT in the nutrition intervention group was lower than that of conventional treatment group, with statistically significant differences(P < 0.05). Before treatment, there were no statistically significant differences in the scores of all items and total score of quality of life between the two groups (P > 0.05). After treatment for 4 weeks, the scores of those above were all decreased and those in the nutrition intervention group were much lower than those of conventional treatment group, with statistically significant differences(P < 0.05). Conclusions Nutrition support can improve the nutritional status in the treatment of elderly patients with AECOPD, promote the clinical curative effect and quality of life.
