Abstract:Objective To observe the effect of head electroacupuncture on behavioral changes and morphological changes of hippocampus and hypothalamus in rats with chronic fatigue syndrome induced by composite factors stimulation. Methods Thirty-six SD rats were selected and divided into the normal group, the model group and the acupuncture group by random number table, with 12 rats in each group. The model group and the acupuncture group used the composite factors stimulation to establish the chronic fatigue syndrome model. The acupuncture group was treated with electroacupuncture of baihui, ningshen and bilateral sensory areas to observe the activity of rats in the open field and the changes of tissue morphology in hippocampus and hypothalamus of the rats. Results Before treatment, the horizontal activity and vertical activity of the rats in the model group and the acupuncture group were significantly reduced compared with the normal group (P < 0.01). After treatment, the horizontal activity and vertical activity of the rats in the acupuncture group were significantly increased (P < 0.01). HE staining showed that the hippocampus and hypothalamus neurons in the model group and the acupuncture group showed morphological and quantitative pathological changes before treatment. The number of apoptotic cells and capillary edema was increased in the model group and the acupuncture group. The pathological changes in the hippocampus and the hypothalamus of the rats in the acupuncture group were improved after treatment. Conclusion Head electroacupuncture can obviously improve the central fatigue state of model rats with chronic fatigue syndrome, which may be related to the repair of neurons in the hippocampus and hypothalamus by electroacupuncture.
